London officials are concerned that preparations for the 2012 Olympics will far exceed the current budget of $14 billion. Last year, French architect Roger Tallibert, who designed Montreal's Olympic Park ("The Big Owe"), told the Daily Mail that he expects London to have the same problems as Montreal. He speculated that the total cost of the Games will reach $20 billion. Even if this estimate proves excessive, the rising costs of construction materials are fueling concerns that costs will indeed spiral out of control.
