Michelle Pan was 13 when she started bellaandedward.com in October 2006. The Austin (Tex.) native was surprised by how taken she was by the Twilight books. "I don't like reading that much," she admits. But the elaborate plot of the stories, hinged by discussions of souls, love, and the meaning of choice, grabbed her. "Going on fan sites keeps people sane while they're waiting for the next book to come out," says Pan. When Meyer did a New Moon reading at the bookstore in Pan's hometown in the fall of 2006, Pan and six other friends showed up wearing black shirts they made that read "Twilight Zone."
