Fallout: The southern burger chain Krystal was forced into bankruptcy after hundreds of workers filed claims of labor violations against the company, which it settled for $13 million in 1997. That year the chain was acquired by Atlanta-based Port Royal Holdings. Krystal operates about 400 restaurants, with fewer than half franchised.
