David Wiley

Associate professor of instructional psychology and technology at Brigham Young University

BYU professor David Wiley was formerly the director of the Open Publication License (OPL), which allowed people to copy, modify, and redistribute published works. Inspired by the free-software movement, Wiley's OPL is often seen as an experiment that helped pave the way for the Creative Commons. He spoke about how the Creative Commons has managed to avoid some of the OPL's mistakes and applauded the Creative Commons for simplifying and reducing the number of its licenses.
