Development of the third installment of the action role-playing game began in 2005, but two years later its developers tore up much of that work and started again in an effort to make a game they could be proud of. The new version of Diablo III, with enhanced graphics and new modes of gameplay, was shown in June to attendees of the annual WorldWide Invitation conference in Paris. Video of the public demonstration has been viewed more than 1 million times on YouTube, and sales of the previous version of Diablo rocketed to the top of Blizzard's online store. But some fans howled, complaining that the art direction too closely resembled that of World of Warcraft.
