Based on a musical by the same name, Grease starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the classic take on American high schools in the 1950s. Bolstered by an international chart-topping soundtrack, the film made more abroad ($206 million) than it did in the U.S., where it was the highest grossing movie of 1978. A sequel in 1982 didn't do as well, but the original was re-released in theaters in 1998 for the film's 20th anniversary. A Broadway musical based on the movie still runs today.
