Instant Messaging
To avoid constant meetings, trips around the office, and phone interruptions, many companies encourage employees to use instant-messaging services. IM is a medium of choice for Gen Yers who grew up chatting online, and their mentors and bosses are catching on. Executives at Sprint Nextel (S), for example, recently intervened to protect the use of IM on company workstations when the IT department wanted to pull the plug because of security concerns.
