A master networker, Jin raised $45 million from an array of government research institutes, universities, and Chinese venture funds to build the sprawling ShanghaiBio campus in Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Pudong. ShanghaiBio produces bio chips, conducts contract research for dozens of multinationals, and has access to cancer tissue samples from hospitals across China. A trained doctor, Jin earned a master's and PhD in bioengineering from the University of California at San Diego and had directed genomics labs at the Salk Institute and Purdue Pharma.
