TOOL: Let's All Rearrange The Office

When redesigning a workplace for better teamwork, why not involve employees in the brainstorming? That's the concept behind The Sandbox, a new office-planning tool (above) developed by New York-based firm DEGW. Similar to a complex board game, it features small geometric blocks that clients can move around to determine which floorplans and furniture arrangements will make it easiest for them to share ideas. Employees' opinions on potential renovations are then passed on to architects. The Sandbox may sound like a plaything, but that hasn't stopped companies like GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. from using it.
