Ray Dolby

While still in college, Dolby worked at Ampex on the first commercially successful video recorder, developed for TV broadcasters. Later, at Dolby Laboratories, he brought stereo sound to movie theaters—first in analog form, then in digital. Now, his San Francisco company is promoting digital projection and digital 3-D.
