Possibly the electric car design with the fewest frills, Mitsubishi's iMiEV—inspired by its rear-engine predecessor, the i-Car—made its debut in July at the G8 summit in Japan, where 10 of the cars were used to transport world leaders and media. With design finalized and testing complete, Mitsubishi is developing a plan to produce 10,000 iMiEVs per year, beginning in 2012.
