Detroit in the early years of the 20th century was not unlike the Hollywood of the same era. It was the home of an emerging industry that offered huge success to some, the promise of a decent wage to others, and a good living even to those who never quite made it to the very top. Robert Craig Hupp, a former employee of Ford and Oldsmobile, started Hupmobile in 1909. Like many of its contemporaries, the company offered a beautifully made car that simply cost too much to produce.
