Despite the slowdown, Toyota continues to build in the U.S. In Blue Springs, Miss., Toyota is building its eighth North American assembly plant, where the Prius will begin rolling off the line in late 2010. This will be the first plant in the U.S. to build the Prius, and it will employ nearly 2,000 people. The plant will be Toyota’s eighth North American plant. Among Toyota’s other U.S. operations, its oldest plant, in Georgetown, Ky, was established in 1986 and produces the Camry. It has the capacity to make 500,000 engines and 500,000 cars. Nummi, a Fremont (Calif.) joint venture with General Motors manufactures the Corolla and Tacoma for Toyota, and the Pontiac Vibe for General Motors.
