TREND: HP, A New Runway Darling?
Teaming up for the first time with a high-end apparel maker, Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) has collaborated with fashion designer Vivienne Tam on a stylish ultralight laptop (similar to Prada’s partnership with LG on a phone last year). Tam designed floral patterns that are fused into the plastic casing of the PCs, even underneath the keyboard, using a new manufacturing technique. She also created fresh onscreen graphics. The new, $700 mini-notebook PC, the size of an evening clutch bag, will hit stores in mid-December, but Tam previewed the device at her runway show in New York this fall. Models carried the slim computers instead of purses.
