These days most wallpaper in Japan is made of synthetic materials and washable coatings. But Yamamoto Design Office's A-Wall wallpaper is made from washi, or Japanese paper. This material is traditionally used for lamp shades, window coverings, and sliding doors. And since it's made of bark from mulberry trees and a shrub called ganpi, it's naturally tear-resistant and durable. It won one of two Good Design Japan Chamber of Commerce & Industry prizes.
