In April 2007, Kluge pledged $400 million to alma mater Columbia University for student financial aid. Previously, Kluge gave $60 million to the Library of Congress and established the Kluge Prize for human sciences, an award comparable to the Nobel Prizes in economics and literature. Other gifts include an historic 7,400-acre estate worth $45 million to the University of Virginia and more than $110 million to Columbia University for minority scholarships and faculty diversity programs.
