In February, Toshiba (6502.T) resigned from the HD DVD market, ending a six-year format war with Sony-led Blu-ray for title of high-definition DVD industry standard—and rendering the format as obsolete as floppy disks and Beta tapes. The death knell came the previous month, when movie producer Warner Bros. declared it would stop supporting HD DVD by June. As recently as November, HD DVD titles have still been spotted online and at retail stores, going for as little as $10 apiece. Holiday bargain, anyone?
