Tesla's sporty, speedy, all-electric Roadster arrived in September to rave reviews. Its performance—120 mpg fuel efficiency, 3.9-second zero-to-60 mph acceleration, and range of 244 miles—has impressed even the skeptics, and prompted more than 1,200 orders for the car. Still, the product is a year overdue and is priced higher than originally planned. The Roadster also cost Tesla more than planned: The company has laid off large chunks of its staff and fired founder Martin Eberhard.
