Jobs Cut: 500
NBC Universal, a unit of General Electric (GE), said on Dec. 4 it would lay off 500 employees, including several longtime NBC News correspondents. The cuts at NBC are a result of the company's plan to cut $500 million, or about 3%, from its budget in 2009. The cuts included Mark Mullen, who served as the Beijing bureau chief during the Summer Olympics; John Larson, the West Coast correspondent for Dateline NBC, and Don Teague, a correspondent in Dallas.
