Former Head of the State Food & Drug Administration (China)
Zheng served as head of China’s SFDA from 1998 to 2005, before being convicted of accepting bribes totaling $850,000 from eight pharmaceutical companies eager to get fast approval for their drugs. One of the company’s antibiotics was found responsible for the deaths of at least 10 people. Zheng received the ultimate sentence and was executed in July 2007. "The nest of corruption in the SFDA has done incalculable harm to the state and people," China’s Procuratorial Daily reported at the time.
