Anthony Jiminez, founder
MicroTech
Vienna, Va.
Jiminez’s career in the Army stretched from 1975, when he enlisted as a private, to 2003, when he retired as lieutenant colonel. A decorated combat veteran, he is shocked at many people’s opinions of the armed services. “There’s a perception that people in the military have been trained to shoot and win battles, but when it comes to business savvy, we don’t have any,” he says. “What people don’t realize is that running smaller units of the military is just like running a business.” His $20 million company employs some 250 people.
Words of Wisdom: Use your skills
“You have skills and capabilities you’ve picked up in the military. You need to leverage those. And know the business you’re getting into. If you don’t really understand it as the owner, you won’t be successful.”
