Carolyn Woo

Dean, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, since 1997.

Education: PhD, Purdue University, 1979; MS in International Administration, Purdue University, 1976; BS, Purdue University, 1975

Last administrative role: Associate Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Purdue University.

On being a dean: My biggest challenge has been to find the balance between moving too fast, setting goals too high, and respecting limits.

On the challenges ahead: The challenge I see ahead is getting the Mendoza College to believe that we have barely scratched the surface of our potential. We must continue to learn, to change, and to innovate.

On being a woman leader: Finding room in my schedule for leisure and cultivation of a hobby is a perpetual challenge of my job. At the same time, the rewarding part is achieving our goals as a college while cultivating a sense of community and care for the common good, which is a large part of our mission here at the business school as well as the mission of the University of Notre Dame.
