Kaiser Permanente: Mining Data

Kaiser Permanente, a provider of health care in parts of the U.S. and Canada, constantly mines internal patient records to track clinical outcomes and the quality of care. With only a handful of pharmacy researchers, Kaiser accumulated enough data to support pulling Merck's (MRK) Vioxx from the list of drugs covered by its plan months before the Food & Drug Administration took action.
