For the past 12 years, Chris Bailey has worked at or with nonprofits. Most recently he was an account manager at software provider Convio, showing clients how to boost their fund-raising and advocacy efforts with Convio's online tools. While Bailey enjoyed much of the work, he says his new consulting venture, which he launched within days of being laid off, allows him more flexibility and control to do what interests him most: organizational development and social media marketing. So far, business has been brisk, and Bailey says he hopes to bring in $50,000 to $60,000 this year.
