Fujitsu (6702.T)'s PalmSecure palm-vein scanning technology, a biometric technique more accurate than fingerprints, has been used to prevent unauthorized people from entering research labs, to authenticate ATM users in Japan, and as a corporate network security system. Now the ID-equipment test is being tested in kiosks at Springfield Clinic in Illinois to check patients in, streamline co-payments and billing, and update medical records. Springfield is collaborating on the pilot project with Allscripts (MDRX), a leader in electronic medical records.
