Google Flu Trends

The first thing a person used to do when they thought they'd come down with an illness was to call their doctor. These days the first impulse for many is to do a search on Google (GOOG) or another search engine. That's why the folks behind Google Flu Trends track search queries related to flu in order to give health officials an early warning about a possible outbreak in a given area.
