Though the McDonald's (MCD) headquarters dates to 1988, it incorporated many of the attributes that LEED judges require for top-level buildings. The fast-food company's 88-acre campus outside Chicago is heavily wooded and has two creek-fed ponds that double as retention basins for rain and snow melt and avert erosion. They also supply irrigation water for all landscaping.
