Curtailed computer buying is burning Dell more than its rivals, but investors approve of the company's cost cutting. Dell's PC shipments fell nearly 17% in the first quarter amid a 7% decline in overall worldwide shipments, according to market researcher IDC. And Oracle's April acquisition of computer maker Sun Microsystems has Wall Street pushing Dell to buy more companies. Still, accelerated cost cuts have helped push up Dell's stock by 13% so far this year.
