Satellite Mapping of Evapotranspiration

Satellite Mapping of Evapotranspiration

State of Idaho

Using satellite photographs, this state-run program analyzes detailed images of evapotranspiration, or water that is drawn from soil and then "sweated" out by the plants, to better understand how much water is needed by residents on local and regional levels. The program uses satellites that cover 10,000-sq.-mile areas. The program, first implemented in 2000, has seen 96% accuracy in measuring evapotranspiration for full crop-growing seasons.
