Though the double-neck guitar had been in existence since 1897, Gibson and legendary guitarist Jimmy Page made it famous. Musicians could switch back and forth between two separate necks and fretboards, one with six strings and one with twelve, resulting in completely different sounds without the player having to trade instruments.
