Smart Appliances

In its marketing messages, Southern California Edison has long urged customers to "give your appliances the afternoon off" in hopes of reducing the strain on electricity supply between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., when legions of customers run large appliances, such as clothes and dish washers. In the future, utilities will connect with appliances via smart meters and be able to turn off appliances directly.
