What it does: Production company and content producer
Founder: Carlos Leon, 26
Web site: www.cmlmediagroup.com
Based: North Hollywood, Calif.
Then: Carlos Leon used the $25,000 he had in savings to turn the multimedia outfit he started in his parent's mobile home into a production company. Clients included Warner Bros., VH1, Sirius, and MTV3. He reported around $150,000 in revenue for 2007 and expected to bring in close to $200,000 in 2008. He also started an online Spanish TV channel, Gente Vision, featuring interviews with Spanish celebrities, and planned to start a record label.
Now: Renamed CML Media & Entertainment Group, the expanded company includes his newly minted record label—CML Music—along with his studio, online TV channel, and production company. He signed two artists to his record label and is looking for a round of venture capital to launch an even bigger multimedia studio next year. Leon, who hires mostly freelancers and interns, says the company has been profitable for two years.
