Michael Sroka, CEO of the $300,000, 11-employee San Francisco company that developed oneseason.com, a gaming platform for sports that includes a stock market for athletes:
I was daydreaming back in 1998 in high school economics class and thought a stock exchange for athletes would be a cool way for kids to learn about market dynamics. After graduating from college I worked for a private equity fund and then a hedge fund. I was playing fantasy sports with my friends, and I thought this would work. The CEO of the hedge fund had a lot of experience with venture-backed startups. I pitched this idea to him in July 2006 and he loved it. He provided some startup capital and by May 2007 we had a business plan and we launched the Web site in October of 2008.
