Milky Way, launched in 1923, claims to be the world's first filled chocolate bar. Created by Frank C. Mars, Milky Way mimicked the flavor of the chocolate-malt milkshakes that were then popular and sold for a nickel. Outside North America, Milky Way is known as the Mars bar.
