Apps That Know Where You Are

Your apps know where you are. And they use that information to help you find nearby friends, businesses, and other amenities. Software that can be downloaded onto a mobile phone uses Global Positioning System technology to determine the device's whereabouts and integrate the data into other features.

These location-aware apps are particularly prevalent on Research In Motion's (RIMM) BlackBerry, a smartphone that's used heavily by business travelers. Prompt uses your current location and intended destination, then accounts for real-time traffic and weather to let you know how long it will take to arrive on time.
