Why he is powerful: Dugas was in charge of Pulte Homes for several years before it merged with Centex in 2009 to become one of the largest homebuilders. The company, based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has operations in 29 states, according to its Web site. Dugas has led the company through weak demand and slow home sales: Consolidated revenue for 2009 was $4.1 billion, compared with $6.3 billion for 2008, and revenue from home sales was down to $3.9 billion, from $6 billion, according to a company report.
