Plum Creek Timber Co. via Bloomberg News
Property Owner
What he does: president and CEO, Plum Creek Timber
In position since: 1994
Why he is powerful: Plum Creek, the largest publicly held timber REIT, owns than 7 million acres in major timber producing regions of the U.S., according to the latest 10-K filing. (This is more than timber company Weyerhaeuser, which has 6 million acres in the U.S.) In 2008 and 2009 the company sold about 240,000 acres of timberland to the Nature Conservancy and the Trust for Public Land, and it will sell an additional 70,000 acres to them this year as part of the Montana Legacy Project. Holley recently stated in a release that this year, "we will concentrate on capturing attractive prices for lower-value properties, holding our most valuable lands for the future." The company expects land sales to be $350 million to $370 million in 2010.
