Jonesboro, home to Arkansas State University and St. Bernards Medical Center, is a regional center for manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, education, and trade. Home prices have fallen 4.7 percent since their peak in the third quarter of 2009, according to the FHFA home price index. Unemployment in the area fell to 7.2 percent in June, from 8.1 percent in January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
