Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, IMD strives to be a "global meeting place" for its students and for thousands of business leaders around the world. Consistently ranked among the top 10 international MBA programs, IMD was established in January 1990 as the successor to two previously independent business schools: IMI, founded in 1946 in Geneva by Alcan Aluminum, a global leader in the aluminum industry, and IMEDE, founded in Lausanne in 1957 by Nestlé under the name International Institute for Management Development.
IMD, as the institution is now known, provides a one-year MBA as well as nondegree executive education programs for large and midsize international businesses and for individuals.
