Albania's population is younger than most others on this list: Only 9 percent of the population is elderly and 25 percent are below the age of 15. The number of births currently exceeds the number of deaths and the population is expected to expand to 3.4 million by 2031, according to the Population Reference Bureau. Yet by 2050, the country's low fertility rate is expected to have shrunk its population below current levels.
