More than $300 million has been raised for charity through sales of Newman’s Own food products since 1982, according to the company’s website. The late movie star and philanthropist Paul Newman and his partner, author and Hemingway biographer A.E. Hotchner, started with a salad dressing and soon moved into a range of products, from popcorn and frozen pizza to lemonade and wine. Its salsa—which comes in 11 flavors—is the fifth best-selling salsa in the U.S., accounting for 7.5 percent of total sales.
